Nutty Hills Plantation

This plantation is directly to the east of Lilleshall House and bounded on the west by Sheriffhales Drive. It is now part of Lilleshall Hall Golf Club with the chain of fairways passing through the middle of the surviving woodland.

In 1891, Forbes’ survey described the plantation:

Consists of Larch, Spruce, Oak, Elm, etc about thirty years of age, the greater part of which have been thinned recently. The trees appear to be in a thriving condition. A few acres on the side of the Drive contain rather older timber, which may be thinned and the underwood cut.

Ordnance Survey 25 inches to the mile. Shropshire XXXVII.1, revised 1900. Reproduced with the permission of the National Library of Scotland.
