Weald Moors

Much of the estate was land reclaimed from the Weald Moors wetlands.

The Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society published a letter from Reverend George Plaxton on 1st June 1707. Plaxton was rector of the church in Kinnersley (“Kinnardsey”) for thirty years and describes the marshy conditions of most of the surrounding land in the letter.

Kynnersley Drive or Duke’s Drive was created by the estate in the early 19th century to cross the reclaimed land and improve the access.

Wellington LA21 has produced a website about the Weald Moors with maps and walking routes.
