Crackleybank Plantation

Located southwest of Sheriffhales village and north of Watling Street. In the 1917 sale, it was listed at 25.44 acres as “A valuable plantation of matured timber mostly Oak and Ash.”

In 1891, Forbes’ survey described the plantation:

Consists chiefly of Oak about fifty years of age, with underwood. The trees are in a very healthy condition, but a moderate quantity may be cut in order to benefit the underwood, and the greater part of the latter cut at the same time.

Ordnance Survey 25 inches to the mile. Shropshire XXXVII.9, revised 1901. Reproduced with the permission of the National Library of Scotland.
