The Heathill Plantation

This plantation does not appear in the 1891 Forbes’ survey of woodlands but it does appear in the 1917 Estate sale catalogue as part of “Sheriffhales – Heathill Plantation. Lot 244. Two small plantations one known as The Heathill Plantation and the other as The Village Clump both situate with frontage to the Newport and Shifnal High Road. These plantations consist of well-matured Timber, mostly Scotch Fir, Oak and Elm”. Heathill Plantation’s area was 1.253 acres. Its name does not appear on Ordnance Survey maps but it is clearly number 179 on the OS map below, with the same acreage as in the sale catalogue 16 years later. Its sister plantation, The Village Clump, will be number 159 on the OS map.

Ordnance Survey 25 inches to the mile. Shropshire XXXVII.6, revised 1901. Reproduced with the permission of the National Library of Scotland.
